Girl Power and More At This Year’s Philadelphia Folk Festival

After years of hearing that ‘…folk music is mainly white and male-dominated…’, the PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL set out to change that perception and has programmed this amazing line up with a focus on inclusion and gender balance.

I believe that we are the only long-standing music event in North America that has a Festival and Programming Director who is a woman and will feature female headliners each and every night”, says Festival and Programming Director, Lisa Schwartz.  “We were determined to break the past talent buying trends and move decidedly toward balance and equity, and curate with a focus on more women artists, and more world music and international performers”, said Schwartz.

What is possibly the most beloved music festival on the East Coast will take place on an 80-acre working farm in Upper Salford Township, a little more than 35 miles outside of Philadelphia.  A legion of loyal volunteers (as many as 2,600), transform the rolling fields into a magical, melodic community that offers three full days and four nights of music and merriment.  THE PHILADELPHIA FOLK FESTIVAL is the longest continuously running event of its kind in North American and is celebrating its 57th Anniversary on August 16-19 at the Old Pool Farm.  Upwards of 36,000 enthusiasts will travel to see and hear the extraordinary talents of these incredible artists:
