FIRST LISTEN: Will Hoge Premieres New Single

will

Grammy-nominated Nashville singer-songwriter Will Hoge has premiered “17” with The Boot. Inspired by hearing his two sons making music in the family garage, the “breezy, nostalgic” track comes from Hoge’s self-produced 11th studio album Anchors, out August 11 via Thirty Tigers.

I was sitting around one day during a period of deep doubt,” Hoge tells The Boot, “and then I heard these three pre-teens in my damn garage thinking they can save the world with rock ‘n’ roll. It was amazing. All of the sudden, you remember the feeling of going to band practice and playing with your friends and making sure that you’ve got your jean jacket on just right so you can talk to the girl at the movie theater and try to get her to come to your show. You remember you do it because you love it and it feels right.”

Early reviews for Anchors have been glowing. “Hoge employs every weapon in his vast musical arsenal to deliver what may be his finest work yet,” says The Daily Country. “Every tune here displays his mastery as a songwriter and performer,” writes Americana Music Show.

In between working on his own music and crafting hit songs for others (Eli Young Band, Lady Antebellum), Hoge is busy with the launch of Nashville Elcectric Transportation, his new Tesla-only electric car service. Read about it here and here.

Hoge will embark on US tour in August, which will include a return to the Grand Ole Opry and a performance at this year’s AmericanaFest.

Discover The Rockin’ Folk Of Ruby Fray

18893358_1672351442794752_7332960150653109015_n

Based out of Chicago, Illinois, singer and song crafter Emily Beanblossom took on the name Ruby Fray in 2011 as a moniker for her solo work apart from her other collaborative endeavors. Beanblossom was active in the Olympia scene in bands like Georgy, Legs the Crab, Karczol, and others, but was best known as the frontwoman for the raucous noise rock band Christmas.

Following extensive U.S. tours with Christmas, the singer retreated for a time to her family farm and began work on the darker, more organic sounds that would become Ruby Fray. Between gigs with Christmas and her fledgling business as a soap maker, she began performing stripped-down solo shows with these new songs.

In 2012, Beanblossom relocated from Olympia to Austin, Texas, where she began performing Ruby Fray shows more frequently. In the spring of 2012, Ruby Fray’s debut LP, Pith, was released on K Records. Pith found Beanblossom’s goth-charged indie songs augmented by a cast of players from the K Records and Olympia community, including members of LAKE, Angelo Spencer, Calvin Johnson, and Jake Jones, her bandmate from Christmas.

After moving to Austin, Beanblossom recorded her second Ruby Fray album with members of These Are Words, Ghetto Ghouls, Legs the Crab, Hotegia, and Clayface. Inspired by the wildlife of her new hometown, Grackle arrived in September 2014 on K Records.

This summer she will relocate to Chicago, and will begin working on the album inspired by her time in Texas, and embark on her 2017 Western Tour with a small army of all-female musicians.

AngloFiles: Indie Rockers Doe

artist-13886

Since forming in early 2013 Doe have built a UK following with their unique brand of ‘wonky alt-pop’ (Clash Magazine). The band’s influences are rooted in 90s indie-rock, but their songwriting style and lyrical content place them very much in the present alongside contemporaries such as Speedy Ortiz, LVL UP and Dilly Dally. Off-kilter time signatures, intertwining guitars and the vocal-interplay between guitarist Nicola Leel and drummer Jake Popyura stand as clear markers of a band completely at ease with themselves. Their songs pack power but are also loaded with a wry sense of humour.

In 2016 Doe released their debut full length ‘Some Things Last Longer than You’ on Old Flame Records (US) and Specialist Subject Records (UK). Produced by Matthew Johnson (Hookworms / Suburban Home Studio), the album impressed critics and made it on to several end of year lists, most notably landing at 6th place on ABC News’ Best Albums of the Year. The Quietus branded STLLTY ‘the kind of record that will stir and inspire you during moments of existential crisis’.

Live, Doe are a formidable presence and bring a frantic energy to every performance. As noted by ABC News, ‘Doe might just become one of your new favourite bands.

Catch them this summer in a city near you.
